For a former BETA Camper..

How have they helped you, and in what aspects have you grown/improved?
BETA Camp has helped me in an array of ways. The first thing that comes to mind is the connections I have formed with my fellow campers, the Camp Directors Ivy and Yifan, and the various guest speakers and camp counsellors we had throughout BETA Camp, who are all industry leaders at top companies like Google, IKEA, Goldman Sachs, and
What are some pros and cons about signing up for BETA Camp?
There are so many pros of doing BETA Camp! I’ll summarize them down to getting clarity on your future through learning about different career possibilities and getting to try them out while building a startup, learn from the best of the best who are actually doing what you want to do in 10 years (and not from teachers or professors or those that don’t have real industry experience), and getting a peek at what the future will look like because it’s changing really fast and BETA Camp really teaches you how to adapt quickly and pushes you to dream bigger. Some cons are that in order to become the successful person you want to be and build a startup that gets traction takes a lot of time and work. This might not be for everyone. At BETA Camp, you are taught fundamental concepts each week through an asynchronous student portal from business foundations to design thinking to customer research to building an MVP to design to sales and marketing to scaling and finally to pitching to investors. After learning the basic fundamentals, you get to apply your learnings at weekend workshops through doing company challenges. For example, one week you would be learning about the process of design thinking and then on the weekend the Head of Innovation at IKEA comes in to run a workshop where you apply the framework on IKEA or you would be learning about Hypothesis Testing and Customer Research and the founder of Stadium Live comes and you design features along with tests for the company. You get to then present your ideas to the founders and industry professionals and receive feedback! Then the following week, you have to apply what you learned directly on your own startup. For example, that might include interviewing 5 potential customers and sifting through a Reddit forum for customer research or actually building a landing page and building a facebook ad to get traction. Each week you also meet with an industry mentor with your team who has experience building, founding or investing in early stage startups to help you with progress. It’s a lot of work but BETA Camp truly gives you the roadmap to success and all the support and resources you need. You just have to have the discipline and ambition to believe in your own potential as the team at BETA Camp does!

How did you first come across BETA Camp?
BETA Camp is an enrichment program that trains high school students to be future leaders in business, technology, and entrepreneurship. I saw a post on BETA Camp on the Instagram story of another program I am a part of, YELL . The camp immediately captured my interest, because it is rare to find programs targeted to high school students where you not only actually start your own business, but you also learn and receive mentorship from experienced entrepreneurs and Silicon Valley professionals along the way! I applied to BETA Camp the next day, and the rest is history!

Finally, do you have any advice for students who are interested in signing up for BETA camp?
Learning from the best comes with a price in both time and money, but the connections, knowledge, and experiences you come out of BETA Camp with are priceless. As Warren Buffet once said, “the best investment you can make is investing in yourself.” At BETA Camp, you get to learn from industry professionals from an array of different industries - from traditional business services like accounting, consulting, finance, and marketing to all kind of engineering like software, hardware, robotics, machine learning, or chemical from those working in social

Facebook, or founders of startups. The greater your network the better; you never know when a relationship might come in handy! Many of my fellow campers landed high school internships offered directly from camp counselors who were impressed with their work on their startups during camp and others received reference letters when applying to universities and scholarships! BETA Camp also helps you develop leadership, teamwork, and interpersonal skills that are valuable no matter what career path you choose. Working with a team of six people on my startup, TeachAdapt, I learned a lot about myself as a person and how I work with others. From ideation to landing 5 clients all within 4 weeks, I got to experiment by wearing many different hats and playing many different roles within a business. Not only did I develop as a leader and team player, but also as a person. Finally, BETA Camp provides you with a lot of
foundational knowledge about the worlds of business, tech, and entrepreneurship. The curriculum is taken from top MBA programs at Harvard, Stanford, and Wharton and from Silicon Valley incubators - and also taught by MBA-level camp counselors working at the forefront of innovation. After BETA Camp I feel equipped to excel in any high school business classes I’m taking this year, and I also feel much more prepared for next year when I enter Business School!Overall BETA Camp was a very rewarding and fun experience and I would recommend it to all high-achieving high students who want to challenge themselves to build skills to stand out from the crowd and gain clarity on what they want to do in the future!
impact on climate change, social justice, and education to digital nomads who travel the world while running their own businesses or freelancing, and finally from those who completed higher education degrees like medicine, law, and master’s to those working at startups in business roles in business operations, product management, and data science. BETA Camp will introduce you to endless future career possibilities, how to get
there, and then equip you with the skills that will help you excel in these areas. Equipped with this knowledge, you can make a better, more informed decision when it comes to choosing what university you want to attend and which subjects you want to study (and you’ll also be better prepared for the subject matter!). Thus, BETA Camp can potentially save you thousands of dollars on a wasted university degree that was towards something you didn’t even want to study! That’s what I call worth the investment! So while applying for BETA Camp, make sure you showcase that you have a growth mindset open for new ideas and experiences and are ready to take initiative to make an impact in the world!
