LAKEHEAD UNIVERSITY
Lakehead University is located on the beautiful coast of Thunder Bay (north Lake Superior), and Orillia, ON [1]. Lakehead is a mid-sized university, with 8,700+ students, 85 programs offered, and two main campuses (Orillia, ON, and Thunder Bay, ON) [1]. Lakehead is a new institution relative to others in the province, having only been established in 1965 [1]. However, they do have a large variety of faculties and specialties; business admin, engineering, education, graduate studies, law, science, social science, health studies, natural resource management, etc. [2]. The Lakehead Thunderwolves are represented by the affectionately named “Wolfie the Thunderwolf” [3. 4]. The LUSU (Lakehead University Student Union) administrates, and organizes clubs, volunteer opportunities, jobs, etc. for students throughout the year [5]. Despite their size, they don’t slack on clubs; clubs range from culture, to culinary, to sports, to faith, to pride, and many other associations [5]. Lakehead has one of the highest first nations enrollment rates throughout Canada, and in 2016-2017, 11.9% of students were of indigenous descent [6]. A large percent of Lakehead’s students come from outside of the near commute area; so new students coming from far and wide aren’t alone [7]. Lakhead has garnered many affiliations over time. Including (but not limited to): IAU, AUCC, CUSID, OUA, and CUP [4].
