LAURENTIAN UNIVERSITY
Founded on the Sudbury Peninsula in 1960, Laurentian University is a bastion of the French language and French learning in English Canada [1]. LaurentianU is no small institution, 2 campuses (Sudbury (main), Barrie), roughly 9,000 students, and 140 programs make for a medium sized university in that regard [1]. LaurentianU boasts a healthy variety of faculties including: graduate studies, health, management, science, engineering, economics, english, history, law & justice, biology, architecture, mining, and much more [2, 3]. The school’s colours are gold and blue, they’re colloquially known as the “Voyageurs”, and their mascot is “Victor the Voyageur” [4]. Laurentian also hosts a large selection of clubs, whether academic, religious, cultural, political, climate or just common interest; starting your own club isn’t difficult either, “All you need are like-minded students who share a common interest” [5]. In addition, LaurentianU recognizes multiple student associations within the school with their own, independent governing bodies such as L’association des étudiantes et étudiants francophones (AEF), the Indigenous Students Circle (ISC), and the Students General Association (SGA) (for their related media, click the embedded hyperlinks) [6]. Since 2000, Laurentian has grown over 50%, international enrolment has increased by more than 14% over the last 4 years, and has a very high post-graduation rate in Ontario: 94.3% after the first 6 months, 97.4% after 2 years [7]. Laurentian has affiliations with the AUCC, IAU, COU, AUFC, CVU, CBIE, CUP, OUA, OUSA, and more [4].
