SIMON FRASER UNIVERSITY

Established in the pacific province in 1965, “Canada’s Engaged University” has cemented itself as a premiere Canadian University despite its relatively short existence [1]. With 3 main campuses sprawled around British Columbia (Burnaby (main), Vancouver, Surrey),135 programs, and over 36,000 students, SFU is one of the largest Canadian universities in general [1, 6]. SFU boasts a wide variety of faculties including: Faculty of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Beedie School of Business, Faculty of Communication, Art and Technology, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Environment, Faculty of Health Sciences, and the Faculty of Science [2]. SFU's school colours are light red, dark red, and white, and the school’s mascot is “McFogg the Dog” [3]. When it comes to student societies, Simon Fraser is truly a cut above the rest; the Simon Fraser Student Society (SFSS) represents over 25,000 undergraduate students and provides SFU students services and support to enhance campus life [4]. SFSS provides services such as a free legal clinic, food bank program, extended health and dental plans, room/equipment bookings, and more; SFSS also facilitates and offers clubs ranging between technology, culture, business, politics, charity, etc. [4, 5]. SFU also boasts one of the most diverse student bodies in Canada, with 22% of students coming from over 137 countries around the world during the 2019 calendar year [6]. SFU has been ranked as the #1 comprehensive canadian university according to Maclean’s University rankings every year except in 2014 when they were ranked #2 [6]. SFU’s affiliations include: AUCC, CARL, IAU, ACU, CBIE, CUP, and more [3].
