University of Regina

The University of Regina is located in the rectangular shaped province of Saskatchewan, and is a true sleeper hit of a university [1]. A rather quaint institution, it has only one main campus, 13,900+ students, but a surprising range of 159 programs offered, spread out amongst 10 faculties [1]. Speaking of which, the faculties include: arts, business, education, graduate studies, kinesiology, health studies, media/art/performance, nursing, science, and social work [2]. The Regina Cougars are unique in that they have two mascots; “Reggie the Cougar”, and “Ram-page” [3]. The URSU (University of Regina Student Union) sponsors roughly 100 student clubs, meaning that they individually receive funding from the URSU (they’re also completely student led) [4]. Clubs vary widely, with athletics, academics, and culture being the most prevalent [4]. Originally, URegina was a private high school (denomination of the Methodist Church of Canada), and then became a junior college (associated with the University of Saskatchewan), until 1974 when it became an independent university [1]. La Résidence building is a special dormitory for students speaking, or taking classes in French; they are given a higher priority then others for rooms (depending on availability and application date) [1]. URegina’s affiliations include: AUFC, AUCC, CBIE, CUP, CUSID, CARL, and more [5].
